J. Rodney Turner
After retiring from a 30-plus year career as an air traffic controller, J Rodney Turner wondered how he might best spend his time while retired. At the time, sitting around, enjoying life might have appeared to be a fine idea, but Rodney thought age 56 was a little young to allow the world to pass him by while he watched from the comfort of a rocking chair on his front porch.
Rodney, with help from his wife, Julie, did a little research and began to build a business centered on his voice. While he has experienced success in commercials and promos, the bulk of his success stems from his ability to tell stories through audiobooks, with over 190 titles to his credit.
Rodney also has a successful podcast, Audiobook Narration for Beginners, where Rodney interviews narrators and coaches from every experience level regarding their own personal journey into audiobooks. Rodney asks the questions all “newbies” want to know – how to get started, how to find coaches, how to benefit from in-person and virtual workshops and conferences, how to find work and how to be build a successful narration business.
When he’s not in the booth, Rodney spends his spare time taking care of things around the farm, in Portland, Tennessee – 35 miles due north of Nashville, with help from Julie and their teenage daughter, Rylie.
